Veuve Clicquot - Widow Series

"I constantly find inspiration in the number seven: the shape of it, the sound of it, and the meanings attached to it. It's the seven wonders of the world, it's lucky seven, it's the seven days of the week. Now, for me, it's the seven deadly sins."Carine Roitfeld

THIS
YEAR

Veuve Clicquot presents the third instalment of The Widow Series: Now firmly established on the London calendar, this annual event allows Veuve Clicquot to seek seminal creatives who have an unfulfilled desire or passion project they wish to bring to life mirroring the values of Madame Clicquot in a one off immersive experience.

This year, the Veuve Clicquot Widow Series will take the shape of a four storey installation that brings to life the Seven Deadly Sins, curated by fashion maverick Carine Roitfeld and hosted by champagne brand Veuve Clicquot. Walk through a series of spaces to visualise each sin - let the bejewelled hands of greed grasp you in your step, enter into the sensual world of latex lust and descend a staircase of ethereal butterflies to find humility.

Carine has naturally garnered the help of a few of her famous friends along the way. Each guest will receive a glass of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label on entry, served by widows adorned in Tom Ford with Gianvito Rossi and FENDI both contributing to the sin "Wrath" with a secret installation, and Rick Owens contributing to the "Envy" section of the exhibition.

Open Friday 20th and Saturday 21st October

THE
WIDOW SERIES

The Veuve Clicquot Widow Series pays tribute to the revolutionary founder of the champagne house, Madame Clicquot, who was widowed in October 1805. A trailblazer of her time, Madame Clicquot single-handedly took over her late husband's champagne business, aged 27, and challenged conventions through innovations such as blending red wine to create the first blended Rosé champagne.

Madame Clicquot's pioneering spirit lives on in the Veuve Clicquot Widow Series, which embodies the audacious creativity and joyful elegance that Veuve Clicquot represents. Each year the champagne house collaborates with the world's most exciting luminaries to ignite their dormant passion by allowing the freedom to create a fully immersive experience inspired by the values of Veuve Clicquot.

For the debut of the Veuve Clicquot Widow Series in 2015, the fashion photographer Nick Knight showcased the work of pioneering artists, filmmakers and designers. In 2016, which marked the 150th anniversary of Madame Clicquot's death, the singer, director and dancer FKA twigs created a multimedia journey through the 12 signs of the zodiac, featuring characters from the pagan celebration The Feast of the Dead.

EVENT
INFORMATION

The Veuve Clicquot Widow Series, now in its third year, is an immersive exploration of the theme 'Seven' - bringing Carine Roitfeld's vision of the Seven Deadly Sins to life through a series of exhibitions, spanning seven unique realms.

Joining her on the Veuve Clicquot Widow Series as creative director is artist Patrick Kinmonth - internationally acclaimed opera set director and costume designer, who will work alongside his co creative-director, Antonio Monfreda - famed for his artistic work with Italian fashion house, Fendi. Both will support Carine to bring this exhibition to life.

Carine Roitfeld says: "Seven has always been my lucky number in life. I constantly find inspiration in the number seven: the shape of it, the sound of it, and the meanings attached to it. It's the seven wonders of the world, it's lucky seven, it's the seven days of the week. Now, for me, it's the seven deadly sins."

Visitors will flow through a two hour journey of each of the areas to experience Carine's interpretation of the seven sins and the virtues they oppose, bringing a stylish dimension to the maxim of 'opposites attract'.

The event location for the 2017 Veuve Clicquot Widow Series is 17 Islington Green, London, N1 2XN
